Clubs and Associations

• The Wild West Arts Club is an organisation for those interested in cowboy skills: whip cracking, lariat, gun twirling and knife throwing.
• The Australian Plaiters and Whipmakers Association was formed in October 1985 with the aim of preserving and passing on the skills and trade secrets of the art of whipmaking. The majority of the top plaiters and whipmakers in Australia are members and they publish a quarterly journal. You can also order kangaroo hide and books on whip making from this web page.
• Not to be confused with The Australian Whipcrackers and Plaiters Association, founded in 1993. The AWPA runs whip cracking competitions and promotes whip cracking as a family sport.
• The Houston Wild West Arts Club meets at 10am on the first Saturday of each month in Hermann Park. Whip cracking is a primary focus of this group.
• The Dallas Whip Enthusiasts meet on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at Lee Park from 1pm to 4pm. Contact whipenth@swbell.net.
• There are weekly whip cracking workshops from 6pm to 7pm on Sundays at the San Francisco School of Circus Arts.
